The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Procter!
"The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Procter (1925 -1930)" is album, novel, musical performance art piece, and experimental recording project by acclaimed Montreal songwriter Li'l Andy.
Based upon the “life story” of fictitious country music legend Hezekiah Procter, the album was recorded on antique recording equipment from the 1930s to create an authentic 78-rpm era sound.
Leading US folk music magazine No Depression calls it "A startling invention from Montreal's greatest country songwriter today."
The project began with Andy writing old-time country songs "as" Hezekiah Procter--imagining the singer’s troubled life and legend through song. He then recruited the multi-instrumentalists of Canadian folk festival darlings Sheesham and Lotus & ‘Son to record those songs on a “wire-recorder” —an actual antique piece of recording equipment from the 1930s.
The double album they made together sounds like a new discovery of 78rpms records from the early days of country music. "The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Procter" was released in 2022 as a double LP box-set including a novel written by Li'l Andy, telling the entire, fictional life story of Hezekiah Procter.
The project has garnered praise from the UK, the US, Canada and Europe, and has won numerous awards and accolades.
