Eoin O'Sullivan
Sliabh Luachra Musician in Residence
Sliabh Luachra is a 'mythical' part of Ireland around the borders of Cork, Kerry and Limerick. It is associated with a very specific and idiomatic traditional music style and is known all over the world. However the transmission and practice of that great tradition is under pressure on many levels. To this end the County Councils of Cork, Kerry and Limerick have established a new residency that will help to promote and preserve the region’s unique musical heritage.
We are delighted that the very first Sliabh Luachra Musician in Residence, Eoin O'Sullivan, will be here all through the festival.
Eoin has been immersed in the music and history of Sliabh Luachra since childhood, mainly thanks to his father, the fiddle playing local historian Raymond O'Sullivan. He has worked as musician since the age of sixteen and, while his own musical life has been diverse and colourful, he is most passionate about the music and culture of the area where he grew up. In 2013 he started a small school teaching local music to people of all ages and that year he also took on the role of director of Scullys Fest and has helped grow the festival to be one of the highlights of the Sliabh Luachra musical calendar.
As well as opening our 2019 festival, he will also teach a workshop, plasy a sessions, take part in our inaugural live podcast and perform with the amazing Ceilí All Stars
