Mike McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle
Evenings of folk music and song don’t get much better than spending your time in the company of the unwavering trio of Mike McGoldrick, John MccCusler, and John Doyle. Known individually for their highly accomplished solo music and prominent roles in the Transatlantic Sessions, this group of sensational musicians have been a power trio for over a decade now, playing to sold out crowds around the globe. Mike, John, and John have to date made two acclaimed studio albums The Wishing Tree (2018) and The Reed That Bends in the Storm (2020), and three live albums.
They first played together as part of the highly acclaimed Transatlantic Sessions in 2007 and realized that there was a synchronicity to their playing that brought their individual musical virtuosity to a collective new place. Always in demand, a small sampling of who they have shared the stage with over their careers will produce names like: Joan Baez, Mark Knopfler, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Tim O’Brien. While deeply steeped in the Scottish and Irish traditional music, the three are widely known for their innovation as producers and writers and their expansion of traditional idiom. If you spend an evening with this trio, you can expect virtuosity on a myriad of instruments (flute, fiddle, whistles, bouzouki, guitar and pipes to name a few!) while having the fireside intimacy of songs and stories, newly penned and from the tradition.
They've all played at our festival many times, but never together as this trio. Watch out!
