Liz Carroll & Liz Knowles: The Lizzes Podcast
We are thrilled to present the world premiere live performance of The Lizzes Podcast.
Liz Carroll and Liz Knowles are two of the very best Irish fiddlers on the planet and both have always loved to chat. The basis of their friendship began in and around Irish music and over the years, they have toured together, produced albums together, and chatted endlessly about teaching, composing, and arranging. During the pandemic, they spent even more time chatting via phone, FaceTime and Zoom and at one point, one Liz suggested that they start recording these chats and the other Liz said "yes!" and now they are inviting you to listen in.
The first episodes of The Lizzes Podcast are very much rooted in "pandemic times" and you will hear them facing up to and dealing with all that was happening to their musical lives as the world came to a halt. There is seriousness here but lots of laughter as well. This time was also a period of great introspection, exploring, both out of necessity and out of curiosity, new and different creative musical thinking. Their chats became a place to ask questions and reflect on various topics, some of which they had only ever thought about in passing. Topics range from life to creativity to practicing and teaching to recording to auto-biographical details you might not already know about them.
Liz Carroll is an Irish fiddler, composer, and recording artist. She is the first Irish-American musician to be nominated for a Grammy, and the first American-born composer honoured with the Cumadóir TG4, Ireland’s most significant traditional music prize. She has toured as a solo artist and with The Green Fields of America, the group Trian, as the duo Liz Carroll & John Doyle, String Sisters, and now as a duo with guitarist and pianist Jake Charron.
Liz Knowles’ fascination with music has always been rooted in how one can arrive, land, and leave a note. Though arriving to music through the language of classical music, it is her more than thirty year journey through Irish music that has defined her musical style. She established herself as a dynamic performer and recording artist as a soloist on the soundtrack for Michael Collins, fiddler with Riverdance, Broadway’s The Pirate Queen and The Green Bird, and as featured artist for the Ireland 100 Festival at the Kennedy Center.
